A DOCUMENTARY will be produced here with the help of Hollywood directors to address gender-based violence in the country.
The PNG Tribal Foundation, Virtual studio and the Porgera Remediation Framework Association will work together on the documentary.
It is to be called “Celebrating the woman of Papua New Guinea”.
Tribal Foundation programmes director Michelle Hau’ofa said the documentary would not only showcase some of the ways of solving violence in the country but show the efforts made by different agencies in addressing the issue.
“Over the past years, we have received bad publicity on the topic, especially on violence against women,” she said.
“We hope that this film will change that perception.”
She said one of the greatest tragedies in the country was the unacceptable level of violence perpetrated against defenceless men, women and children.
“And to approach it in a better way is to begin with our country’s own perspective on the issue,” she said.
She said the film would include interviews with survivors of such violence, their ordeals and how they overcame them.
The documentary is funded by the Porgera Remediation Framework Association.
