SOCCER matches for the 4th PNG Games will enter its final round of round robin matches today at Bisini Soccer Grounds followed by the finals starting on Thursday.
One of the tournament directors (soccer) Taku Niebo confirmed last night that both men and women division will complete their round robin matches to determine the teams for the finals.
He said all soccer matches would be played at Bisini Soccer Grounds and not Sir John Guise stadium.
In the men’s competition, a lot of soccer followers are tipping Bougainville to win the gold apart from Manus, NCD and Madang.
The tournament director said a lot of results were not reaching him after the round robin games were completed making it difficult for his committee to brief the media and Host Organising Committee (HOC).
Niebo said after yesterday’s matches, Morobe and Western are leading pool A while Sepik, EHP and SHP are going neck-to-neck in pool B.
Hosts NCD are leading pool C followed closely by New Ireland and Enga  while Simbu and West New Britain are ahead in Pool D with Madang and Gulf following closely behind.
Niebo said all the teams nominated have attended except for WHP (men and women) and Sandaun (women) who are not in Port Moresby. Team WHP are believed to be stranded in Mt Hagen while Sandaun team withdrew at the last-minute.
There were also some interesting matches played at Bisini Soccer Grounds yesterday. One of the highlights on the day was the match Bougainville and Enga that saw Bougainville proving too strong for Enga beating them 3-1.
In the other match NCD had too much class over debutants Milne Bay, winning with the same scoreline. The men’s results are as follows; Bougainville 1 Simbu 1, Madang 1 Western 1 and NIP 3 Simbu 0.
In the women’s division, WNB 3 Simbu 0, Madang 1 Gulf 0, Oro 1 New Ireland 1 and Enga 1 NIP 0.
