PORT Moresby AFL kicked off its season proper on a high note, with last year’s finalists Dockers, Koboni and West scoring impressive wins at the Colts Oval at the weekend.
Reigning premiers Dockers proved too strong, with Laurie Logo, Clyde Pula, Arch Mai Jr, Desmond Kaumu, Robert Gogens and Colin Slim forming the impetus of the game to walk over the Kokofas 9.8 (62) to 4.6 (30) in the main match on Saturday.
The Kokofas started strongly in the first two quarters to lead by a nose at halftime. But their first half momentum was short-lived when the Dockers raised the tempo of the game to run out winners.
In the earlier match, last year’s losing grand finalists Koboni beat University Tigers 9.11 (65) to 2.3 (15).
On Sunday, Bomana Cats and West were deadlocked at halftime but the latter, with good height advantage, had the final laugh to the tune of 6.11 (47) to 4.9 (33).
Meanwhile, the Port Moresby AFL has finally got its league executives in place with former Koboni coach Douglas Lai taking the reign as president and Kokofas founder Willie Yogomin assisting as vice-president.
The other two executive members are Freda Keane secretary and David Melua treasurer.
