Find balance between priorities, manager says

Business

THE country needs to get the balance right between the people’s health priorities and financial priorities.
Chris Arek general manager of the 21 Century Real Estate told The National that getting the balance right would bring the best results for the country.
“Business must continue for employees to maintain their standard of living and also maintain optimal health for themselves and their families,” he said.
“Employees need to have optimal health in order to attend work so business can continue.
“When we reopen schools and allow PMVs and taxis to operate to accommodate the need to transport students, we are opening up ourselves to higher risk of transmission.
“Over-zealous blanket lockdown conditions will strangle businesses and in turn adversely affect employees, their families and extended families.
“Unfettered movement of the general public increases opportunity for the uncontainable spread of the Covid-19.
“What are we to do with our limited resources and options?”
Arek said instead of worrying about getting sick, “we should focus on staying healthy”.
“News from overseas (say) the majority of people would experience mild to no symptoms and complaints,” he said.
“The state of emergency restrictions on non-essential movement of people in urban areas should be maintained.
“We should place stringent controls on our borders to limit the entry of the disease, but allow business internally to resume so the PNG economic machinery can pick up speed.”
