Find workable solutions

THE proposed walk against gender-based violence is just a mere reminder of the wide condemnation against violence against women.
It cannot have any effect on the reduction or eradication of this issue.
Since this country was born, we have been too reliant on western laws to solve our problems.
Most, if not all of our laws were adopted from Australia, which is the common law of England.
Thereafter, we have encountered many issues along the way and have made amendments to those laws to cater for those issues.
One of those issues is the violence against women.
For instance, in 2002 a major amendment was made to the Criminal Code Act to cater for sexual offenses against girls and women and such other laws.
And so our laws have been changing with the circumstances since the beginning of time.
We have been looking to western cultures to solve our problems.
As long as laws correlate and meet the requirements of what westerners want than that is the law we adopt.
And that is where the problem lies.
How can you use someone else’s culture to solve a problem arising from a different culture?
Why do we always copy other people’s style to prove a point?
By just walking are you going to stop this? Wake up!
We are not in the states. This is PNG.
If you have 23 trillion as your annual budget than you can resolve to those fragile, petty, and childish platforms.
Seems like we are still blind and continue to adopt styles and culture of foreigners to solve our problems.
Why not find something local and organic to solve this issue.
Something that is embedded in our culture that is so strong that will help in this issue.
The proposed walk is just a mere reminder and cannot have any impact on this issue until our big dogs come to realise that the true solution lies at their doorstep.
What point is there to prove?
What silence is there to break?
