MORE than K100,000 has been raised by the “PNG Hearts for Australia Fire Appeal 2020” for those suffering as a result of bushfires in Australia.
The secretariat of the appeal was formed a week ago and is headed by Paul Nerau as chairman, Samson Komati the deputy chairman, Dr Eric Omuru, the treasurer, and Koren Maso, the secretary, with support from Environment Conservation and Climate Change Minister Wera Mori.
Mori said Prime Minister James Marape accepted the secretariat request and agreed to be patron of the secretariat and had shown his support for the cause.
He said the secretariat would be targeting to raise K5million and donate to Australia for the bushfire victims.
“The fundraising activities will run for eight weeks (from yesterday).
We will complete our fundraising activities around March and give our contributions to Australia,” Mori said adding that updates will be provided every week.
