Fire fighters gearing up for Apec

  • The National Airports Corporation preparations for Airport fire emergency and response towards the Asia Pacific Economic Corporation Summit is well on track.
    Human Resource Manager – Organizational Development, Leo Kaptigau said NAC’s preparation towards Airport fire emergency was well underway in the lead up toward Apec.
    “We have 26 fire fighters attached with the Airport Fire Station and it is a requirement that all our fire fighters are trained every two years on a full scene airport emergency training,” he said.
    Speaking during the graduation,he told the firefighters to perform to the best of their ability and make it their priority to always contain afire.
    He said nine fire fighters have undergone a three weeks of intensive training which would equip them to contain a fire on ground during an emergency.
    The nine fire fighters from the Port Moresby Airport Fire Station graduated with certificates in fire ground leadership rating last week.

    The course aims to;
    a) Lead and direct rescue
    and fire fighting operations as required.
    b) Demonstrate skills and knowledge to take charge of a shift in an event of aircraft emergencies.
