Fire fighters set to man Apec venues

All Apec meeting venues and hotels will have two fighters based there, says acting chief fire officer Bill Roo.
He told The National that the fire fighters would work on a shift basis to respond to any fire emergency at the venues and hotels.
This arrangement was for all the Apec-related meetings.
The officers would check to make sure buildings were in good condition with zero chance of fire.
They will be attached to all meeting venues and hotels, including the Holiday Inn, Stanley Hotel, Gateway Hotel, Waigani International Convention centre, Airways Hotel, Grand Papua and Crowne Plaza.
The officers are working on tight shift schedules — the day shift from 8am to 5.30pm and the night shift from 5.30pm to 2am.
The Boroko Fire Service has four fire trucks.
Eda Ranu general manager Paul Goro said every new building must have a fire hydrant.
