A HOME belonging to musician Augustine Emil near Nipa station in Southern Highlands was razed to the ground early yesterday.

Neighbour Robin Pip, the former district administrator for Nipa-Kutubu, said Emil was away in Mt Hagen but his wife and nine-month-old baby were sleeping inside.

He said it was lucky that they ran out of the home before the house was fully engulfed by flames.

It is believed the mother was woken up by the baby’s cry when the fire approached the place where they were sleeping. She escaped through the back door.

Emil’s wife said the fire started from the front door and quickly spread to other parts.

No comments could be obtained from Nipa police but Pip said the wife and two maids were helping police in their investigations.

A laptop containing Emil’s latest album that he was preparing to record was destroyed with some musical instruments.
