TEN houses in Munum village in Wampar local level government, Morobe, were destroyed by fire on Monday as a result of the prolonged drought.
Villager Douglas Kattie said because of the long dry spell, the fire spread easily onto other houses.
He said the fire started in the kitchen and spread onto other houses at around 2pm when everyone at the village went out for gardening, school, work and other business activities.
“All our belongings from the 10 houses were burnt to ashes, we are only left with clothes that we wear,” Kattie said.
Local councillor Sowe Donny said the matter had been reported to authorities.
