EMPLOYEES of NGIP Agmark in Kokopo, East New Britain, were told to return home yesterday morning after part of their building caught fire on Tuesday night.

It is understood that the fire damaged part of the building housing the accounts department of NGIP Agmark at Talina.

The fire started around 9pm.

People around Kokopo town tried to put out the fire.

The Kokopo Fire Services arrived some time later but could not put it out because their water tanks ran dry.

The Security Assistance Services asked the Department of Civil Aviation to assist with their resources.

A portion of the building was saved.

The Talina building houses NGIP Agmark and other companies and organisations that rent office space.

It is a two-storey building with offices upstairs and a hardware shop downstairs.

NGIP Agmark provides services to the ENB people in agriculture, transport, Information Technology, machinery and shipping.

It is the major sponsor of the NGI rugby league team, the Gurias.

Police and fire officers are trying to establish the cause of the fire.

Provincial police commander Anthony Wagambie is expecting a report from them.
