Fire Service buys gear to protect firefighters

THE PNG Fire Service has bought 30 sets of new personal protective equipment (PPE) from a local supplier to help fire fighters do their job.
Chief Fire Officer Bill Roo said the purchase of the equipment was timely as officers prepare for the Apec Summit in November.
“Given the budget limitations, we are now prioritising on areas where the fire service can be able support the work of fire fighters,” he said.
“This is also to build capacity when responding to fire calls or other related emergencies.
“The Fire Service needs more than 400 PPEs, however, with limited funding, we are able to purchase only 30 at this point.”
Roo said a set of PPE costs K8000.
He thanked Global Product Sourcing and Distribution (GPSD), who are specialists in the manufacture of fire-fighting equipment and personal protective equipment for more than 20 years.
Joe Nete, of GPSD, who delivered the equipement to the Fire Service headquarters in Waigani, said the company would continue to deliver on time.
