FIREMEN were called in to free a man who was pinned to the driver’s seat in an accident on Murana Bridge along Madang’s North Coast Road on Saturday.
The firemen used electric saws to free the driver whose legs were smashed.
Madang commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the driver and two passengers were seriously injured in the accident.
“We are still investigating the cause of the accident and have not ruled out alcohol intoxication as the cause of the road mishap,” he added.
According to the locals, the vehicle was travelling from Madang town towards Bogia when the driver lost control of the steering and crashed on the bridge.
Beer cans were found at the accident scene. “This was not the only accident reported over the weekend.
“Police are investigating five accidents and motorists are warned to be careful as the pass was dangerous,” Supt Rubiang said.
