LEADING insurance company Pacific MMI Insurance has provided a huge sponsorship package to the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association for the next three years.

The three-seasons sponsorship package of K210,000 will cater for women’s softball in Port Moresby from the 2016 to the 2018 softball seasons.

Port Moresby Women Softball Association president Jenny Paak who signed the agreement on Friday stated that this financial backing would go towards administration of current season competition, the national championships, junior champions and the Pacific MMI Corporate Slow Pitch competition.

And elated Paak said her executive were on hand to received the first installment of K70,000 from Pacific MMI financial controller Tess Hernandez on Friday. 

She said in the past, PMMI only sponsored the national championships and the Corporate Slow Pitch. 

“This is the first time we’ve gone into a contract agreement and we are thankful.  

“Our competition is now into its fifth to sixth games of round 1 and with this corporate funding, we can be able to run more activities to develop the sport and promote more women to participate as well as run our awareness campaign on breast and cervical cancer with our women in the sport,” she said.

Paak added that funds raised from the previous Corporate Slow Pitch competition were used to run the affairs of the association. 

“We now have an additional competition which is the juniors competition and we will dwell on this competition to upgrade our B grade level of skills. The funds for the competition will help us to strengthen our current competition and provide extra resources to our clubs.”

She said the association was also trying to play a role in educating women and young girls about breast and cervical cancer and that would be done during competitions. 

She said Port Moresby women competition has current players who were survivors of breast and cervical cancer.
