CITY Pharmacy Limited (CPL) Group has congratulated SP Sports Awards’ best sportsperson with a disability award winner Steven Abraham, first runner-up Haoda Agari, and second runner-up Judy Moi for their efforts. “We congratulate the athletes on this momentous win,” CPL Group chief executive Navin Raju said in a statement yesterday.
“CPL Group champions the value of ‘winning together’ and by sponsoring this category, we recognise the efforts to make sports an inclusive space for national sporting heroes.  Abraham and Agari are 2019 Pacific Games silver medallists in the ambulant 100m and table tennis respectively.  Moi competed in the 2015 and 2019 Special Olympics where she competed in shotput and 100m. Abraham is limb deficient from his left arm after it was amputated following an incident on a boat trip to Manubada Island in 2012. “I am grateful for this award and to the CPL Group for sponsoring it,” he said. “Being a person with a disability did not stop me from pursuing my goals.” Abraham is also a silver and bronze medallist from the 2017 Arafura Games. He is a first-year business student at Limana Vocational Centre in Port Moresby.
“For someone who lost their arm at sea, you’d think I should never return to it,” he said. “But my people are saltwater people, and our homes and families depend on this vast resource for life that I grew up around — I love the sea.” Meanwhile, CPL Group continues to support services towards sports and community development. “We are proud to support the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation, Cheshire disAbility Services, Halfway House and now the SP Sports Awards,” Raju said.
