POLICE in Eastern Highlands have received K12,000 in appreciation of their excellent efforts in combating law and order in the province in the past 12 months.
KBM Motors managing director Mili Kiage, who runs automotive workshops in the province, gave the money so police could buy six cows at K2,000 each to stage a party after their Christmas and New Year special operations.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Augustine Wampe thanked Kiage for recognising the efforts of his officers.
He said Kiage had been helping police since 2002 when he first started to operate his private automotive workshop in Kainantu and had helped every year since.
“Police officers and their family members will purchase live cows with the money to celebrate a belated Christmas and New Year party in week three of January, after the end of the special operation,” Supt Wampe said.
He said the celebration would coincide with a farewell function in the province for the longest serving police station commander Chief Insp David Seine.
Seine retires after serving the province for many years.
The donations to the police were divided so Goroka gets two cows (K4,000), Kainantu, Yonki, Aiyura and Henganofi police stations get one cow each valued at K2,000 each.
Kiage said he provided similar support to Correctional Service officers and prisoners at Bundaira outside Kainantu, Bihute near Goroka and Barawaghi jail in Chimbu.
He started to offer help to the police after starting a private automotive workshop in Kainantu in 2002.
“I have so far spent over K100,000 to help the police by donating cows for Christmas and New Year since 2002,” he said.
“I spent up to K40,000 this year to help Bihute, Bundaira and Barawaghi jails to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
“I will continue to help police as long as I am operating my workshop,” Kiagi said.
