ABOUT 300 students and their teachers in three schools in Kutubu, Southern Highlands, will no longer have to worry about transport to do their schools’ administration runs.
This was made possible after trucks were donated on Wednesday to the schools by Petroleum Resources Kutubu (PRK) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC), who purchased three trucks at a total cost of K456,000 through their community infrastructure fund (CITF).
The three schools are Aiyo Primary School, Sisibia Primary School and Waro High School.
Waro High School head teacher Kinsley Domai said he had taught at Waro for 30 years and this was the first time for the manning of the school to have a vehicle.
He said transport was a problem for school and the donation would greatly improve the school’s administration.
Domai also acknowledged MRDC’s focus on improving education and health standards in Kutubu and noted that the school’s infrastructures were deteriorating and needed upgrading.
MRDC managing director Augustine Mano said the landowner company, through its subsidiaries, had been focusing on investments for many years and had now refocused to bring more basic services to the people to build their lives and provide opportunities by improving their education and health standards. He said if it was to improve the conditions and challenges those children in the rural areas faced, then MRDC and the responsible subsidiary trust companies would work towards brining change to them.
Meanwhile, Southern Highlands deputy administrator Fibik Kilipe, on behalf of the provincial government, announced a K10,000 supply of fuel for each vehicle and a K200,000 funding for each school.

  • We need better road then this trucks, our roads are really bad and these truck might only be good for a short time only. My big concern is if we have better roads, electricity, big hospital and better schools around the project area will be more better for us here..
