COLGATE-Palmolive yesterday launched its Mum, You First campaign at the St John’s Urban Clinic at Gerehu, National Capital District.

The oral health educational campaign in partnership with NCD Health Services will be carried out in 10 urban clinics around Port Moresby with the target group women and young children.

Colgate dentist, Newman Uloulo said dental teams comprising volunteers, UPNG dental students and Colgate dentists would visit mainly well baby clinics as this would be the best time to speak to mothers about their children’s oral health.

“Three messages will be given to mothers which are – for them to begin brushing their teeth, have a healthy diet and teach their children to brush their teeth,” he said.

The campaign was officially launched by Deputy Health Secretary Paison Dakulala along with PNG chief dentist Matupi Apaio, Colgate-Palmolive marketing manager Rhoda Mojica, NCD health services provincial health advisor Gary Ou’u and Oral Health PNG technical advisor Gregory Mainao.

Dakulala said he knew how the mouth had much effect on the health of the rest of the body and that was why it must be looked after.

“The mouth is the doorway to internal health,” he said.

Apaio thanked Colgate, saying they had become a good partner in oral health services while it had become a focus with the Department of Health.
