Swire Shipping earlier this month presented a set of uniforms to Friends who are participating in the Lae Cricket Association competition.
The club’s teams in the A and B grades, and women’s division will now don the Swire logo.
The A-grade team, who have played in two grand finals, are leading the competition.
Agency manager Yvonne Suat, making the presentation, said the firm was committed to the community through sports.
“It is gives me a great pleasure on behalf of Swire Shipping to presents these three set of uniforms to Friends,” Suat said.
“In previous years, we’ve been in association with Friends but not to this degree. This is the first time we’re sponsoring the club with uniforms.”
Club president Sharmaine Siaguru-Gauthier thanked the firm for the uniforms, saying the uniforms would boost their confidence.
Friends patron Josephine Ila told The National that the purpose of forming the club in 2011 was to get more people involved in the competition.
“There’s so many of them sitting on the sideline, so we brought them together,” Ila said.
“We have a lot of work to do, as there are plenty of new players joining the club. We develop the players on and off the field.”
The club is recruiting Under-17 players and those who are interested can attend their training on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at the Lae Showground.
