A NEW company specialising in firefighting and equipment hopes to fill in where the PNG Fire Service is lacking.
Elite Firefighters and Trainers was formed last year by experienced firemen, all former firefighters with the PNG Fire Service.
The company can provide installations, sales, service and upgrading of fire equipment, training on how to use equipment and what to expect and do when there is a fire and surveys on sites and buildings to see if fire safety standards are met.
Team leader Tipson Hangu said the company aimed to equip buildings and homes with safety installations and mechanisms and the workforce with some knowledge about fire prevention and fighting.
Hangu said the national fire service had lacked in their firefighting capability so safety was an issue.
He said there were a lot of problems areas like timing that needed to be considered in firefighting .
“In NCD, traffic congestion, distance and the availability of firefighting equipment pose a  big problem for the national fire service.”
 in serving efficiently,” Hangu said.
He said firefighters often arrived late which had seen buildings completely destroyed lives put at extreme risk.
“In most instances there is nothing done.”
To avoid such situations, basic training has to be provided to individuals to handle equipment on hand and this is where his company comes in, Hangu said.
“Of course, it comes with a price. But look at all the good it will do.”
