THE National Petroleum Company Papua New Guinea Ltd (NPCP), a partner in the LNG project, will now use the technical expertise of DIRECO Services (PNG) Ltd, an officer says.

NPCP managing director, Wapu Sonk signed an agreement with the locally-owned company DIRECO, a minerals, mining, oil and gas exploration company that provides consulting services.

DIRECO is a company that pools and markets local technical expertise in the oil and gas industry.

Sonk said NPCP, a 100% state-owned enterprise, had recognised the technical expertise of the local company and had decided to use its expertise on a needs basis.

“We’ll be seeking DIRECO’s technical expertise in the three sectors of the oil and gas areas – the upstream, midstream and downstream.

“The agreement signifies the recognition of competent PNG technical expertise in the oil and gas business,” he said.

The upstream oil sector is commonly known as the exploration and production sector, the midstream sector involves transportation, storage, and wholesale marketing of crude or refined petroleum products and downstream sector commonly refers to the refining of petroleum crude oil and the processing and purifying of raw natural gas.

“The signing shows that NPCP has trust in a local company and we can help NPCP grow,” DIRECO managing director Peter Ken Gemar said.
