IT WILL be the first cross border run between the people of Papua province of Indonesia and Vanimo, in West Sepik, Papua New Guinea.
Set for Sept 27, the fun run will involve 200 participants.
The event will start at Wutung village, on the PNG side of the border, and finish at Schouw, in Indonesian territory.
Both nations will have equal runners for the 7.5km course on the PNG side before crossing for another 2.5km of PNG/Indonesia border to finish the race.
The aim is to involve people of both countries to enhance mutual trust, understanding and strengthen bilateral relationships.
The Indonesian consul in its last meeting held in Vanimo last month indicated that safety of the runners, officials and the public was important and police and defence would be engaged to provide security during the event.
Other government agencies such as Customs, Immigration and Quarantine officers were present to give their input on what procedures and processes the people from both countries would have to follow.
The fun run will become an annual event if everything goes well in the inaugural event.
