A FISHERIES project in the Imbonggu district of Southern Highlands is expected to supply thousands of fingerling to farmers in the Highlands region once it is registered.
The Repsons Investment Fish Farm, located at Waa village near Mendi town, now has about 10,000 fingerlings bought from Aiyura in Eastern Highalnds to start the project. It is owned by Francis Rasu.
Department of Agriculture and Livestock official Paulus Mosby said work was still underway on the nursery for the hatching of the fingerlings.
They started in 2008 and in 2010 received K30,000 from the National Fisheries Authority.
He thanked officials Jacob Wani, Gideon Pama, Kenneth Kuimp and Anton Mal for their help.
He said the farm received more than K120,000 last year allowing him and Rasu to travel overseas for training.
Acting provincial administrator Joseph Cajestan during his visit to the fish farm said he was pleased with the way some people heavily involved in such huge fish projects.
Rasu said a marijuana garden used to be where the fish pond was being built.
With the support of his brothers’ families, they converted it to a fish farm.
