Fishermen call for better prices

FISHERMEN from the Duke of Yorks Island local level government in Kokopo district are calling on the National Fisheries Authority and local fisheries division in East New Britain to assist them get better prices for their catches.
This follows buyers, mainly Asians working in partnership with locals, paying prices lower than the set price range, particularly for the top species of sea cucumbers.
Speaking on behalf of island fishermen, Joe Narui said that despite following the required processes of harvesting and selling bech-de-mer, buyers continued to pay lower than the set price range.
