A TEAM of five doctors are conducting operations at the Saint Mary’s Vunapope Hospital in Kokopo.
It is part of the Island Petroleum’s “Katim Na Halivim Pikinini” medical project.
The operations started last Thursday and will end tomorrow. The team then travels to Lae to conduct four operations under a Lae Rotary Club sponsorship.
About 30 children are undergoing surgery in Kokopo for illnesses, including a child from Port Moresby, two from Kavieng and two from West New Britain. The medical project was hailed as  a great success last year where visiting paediatric surgeons performed complex surgeries on 30 children from the Islands region, Lae and Goroka.
The visiting team this year includes senior urologist Professor Paddy, senior radiographer Emma Miley from Melbourne, deputy chief surgeon Dr. Mathew McLee from Angau Hospital, senior anaesthetist Dr Harry Aigeeleng from Port Moresby and training anaesthetist from Angau Hospital, Dr Dan Aisi.
