FOUR men and a woman have been charged by police in connection with the sexual assault  of a five-year-old girl in Gerehu, National Capital District.

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa said the five were detained at the Boroko police station and should appear in court next week. They were charged with sexual penetration and abduction. The men charged were Wislon Pore, Nelson Maro, Was Torinke and Kemis Kiwa. The female is Jacklyn Inok. Their ages range between 20 and 30.

Bawa described them as “no better than animals”.

Bawa, however, denied that he was aware of an arrangement between the girl’s family and the five suspects over the payment of compensation.

He said they had been charged and the court would decide on their guilt or otherwise.

Meanwhile, police are investigating two killings at Brown River, outside Port Moresby, yesterday.

Bawa said police investigations were underway.

He confirmed that the seven suspects involved in the K6.3 million robbery last month were remanded at the Bomana Prison cells.

Two women implicated in the heist appeared in court this week. The five are expected to appear next week.

He said so far, more than K1.5 million had been recovered.
