Five join Taiwan leadership training

FIVE Papua New Guineans have been selected to participate in the 2014 Pacific Islands leadership programe(PILP) in Taiwan from next month.
The Chinese Trade Mission made the announcement yesterday in Port Moresby.
A representative of the Trade Mission, Daniel Hu, said he was happy for the five young people to be awarded the competitive, merit-based fellowship among 29 leaders from the Pacific Island region.
The five are Ian Hetri (development, illiteracy and education through media), Philemon Yalamu (education), Mona Giheno (governance), Jennifer Adema (international aid and climate change) and Elliot Tovaboda (environment).
Hu said PILP set to empower young leaders from the region to exercise leadership and promote cooperation in a variety of cultural, geographical and institutional environment.
“It aims to provide opportunities to enhance the leadership capabilities for all participants possessing outstanding intellectual promise, high leadership potential and commitment to serve the development needs of their countries,” Hu said.
Participants will spend two months in the programme.
