FIVE suspects allegedly transporting and selling marijuana were nabbed by the mobile squad 13 in a dawn raid at Nadzab, outside Lae city, last Friday.
Snr Const Tennyson Joseph said on receiving a tip-off from contacts in the area, the squad conducted the dawn raid.
“We went to Nadzab after receiving a tip-off where we searched some houses and arrested four females and a male and confiscated the drugs.
“The drugs were stacked in sweet potato bags,” Joseph said.
The rolls of marijuana were packed into a 10kg bag and then put into a larger stock feed bag of sweet potatoes.
“We arrested the suspects at around 5.06am  and they are in custody at the Lae Town Police cells,” he said.
The suspects are from Kainantu, Eastern Highlands.
They had allegedly travelled to Lae to sell their sweet potatoes and marijuana.
“We confiscated 31 rolls of marijuana, which at a street value can be sold for K100 each,” Joseph said.
“We managed to capture five suspects but the main suspect is still at large.
“And we are doing all we can to catch him.”
