Five officers accused in youth’s death freed

Five police officers accused of killing a youth have been released on a bail of K7500 (total) after spending two months in police custody in East Sepik, provincial police commander Superintendent Robert Gesa said.
“They have been released on K1500 bail each after their lawyer appealed to the National Court for their release,” Gesa said.
“They have been advised
not to interfere with the witnesses.”
Gesa said Constables Marcus Nimiehau, 26, from Yangoru, East Sepik, Graham Haugua, 27, from Southern Highlands, Dekis Tui, 28, from Hela, Hugo Ambane, 27, from Chimbu and Tony Kirua, 23, from Chimbu were accused of shooting to death a man at Wariman outside Wewak town on Sept 25.
They have all been charged with murder and will appear before the Wewak District Court for mention next week.
Meanwhile, Gesa also said they had arrested other police officers for allegedly discharging a firearm at the Yawasoro police barracks in Wewak.
“The officer was intoxicated when he committed the offences,” he said.
