A PRIMARY school teacher and five men were injured when a fight broke out between Samin and Makopin villagers in Wewak, East Sepik, last weekend.
The Dagua Primary School teacher was slashed on her right hand with a bush knife and the men suffered gunshot wounds.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli told The National that he was at the crime scene on Monday and confirmed that Wendy Sigimet and those wounded by gunshots were admitted at in Boram Hospital.
He said the villagers were engaged in sporadic fights since 2017 that had resulted in loss of lives and properties.
“We are preparing to set up a police post in Dogur to monitor the situation.
“There must be peace between the villagers,” Beli said.
“I have spoken to the two councillors and the communities who gathered to listen to what police had to say.
“They seemed happy with the police presence in their villages and will work with the police to identify the suspects and bring them in to face the law.”
East Sepik Governor Allan Bird told The National that the East Sepik government would support the police to address ongoing protracted feud between the villagers.
