POLICE in Port Moresby are looking for a group of men who set fire to a house at Moitaka’s 9-Mile settlement on Jan 22.
Gordon police said they were treating the matter as arson. Investigations were continuing.
Father-of-five Gus Igitola, from Dotavo village in Lufa, Eastern Highlands, estimated his losses at K30,000.
He said on Jan 22, which was a Sunday, at around 3am, five known suspects armed with bush knives had entered his premises and “punched and kicked my wife Serah”.
“We were ordered outside the house as they proceeded to torch the house,” Igitola recalled to The National yesterday.
He said while they all fled the scene, his daughter and son-in-law stood and watched as their house was reduced to ashes.
He said he was also looking for his sons, 15 and 11, who had sought shelter elsewhere in the city.
“All my personal effects such as references, bank card and white goods like refrigerator and generator have been destroyed.”
Igitola has been serving the National Capital District Commission for 18 years.
