FIVE-TIME Kerema Rugby League champions Young Tigers farewelled president Ps Tuta Larry at Siviri village in Gulf on Sunday.
Larry and outgoing treasurer James Papa steered their A-Grade men and women’s teams to five premierships and double honours respectively.
Captain Ilave Sapea said he was sad to see Larry and Papa departing the Tigers after being at the helm of the club for five years.
He said the pair played crucial roles to get the club to where it was now in the Kerema Rugby League.
“Their departure is like seeing us start all over again but we have to keep on moving forward from the good work they have left behind,” Sapea said. “We need good sports administrators to manage the affairs of the club. We are all about being is self-reliant. It is going to be a challenge as these two leaders have given us a lot of confidence through the good and bad times.
“We have performed beyond expectation, winning all the grand finals over the last five years.
“Our women began playing two seasons ago and won both titles since. This indicates the development and progress of the club under the two leaders.
The outgoing pair said it was sad to leave they had helped build over the years.
“We committed our services to this club. We gave our best and the results speak for themselves,” Papa said.
