The Lihir Islands community health programme (LICHP) will be launched at the Palie health centre on Lihir Island, New Ireland, on Thursday.
Among the guests expected to attend the launch of the programme are New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan and his son and Namatanai MP Byron Chan, provincial administrator Simon Malai, Catholic bishop of the Kavieng diocese Rev Ambrose Kiapseni and Nimamar local level government president Rudolf Kiakpe.
The five-year health programme, to be implemented by JTA International under the Lihir Sustainable Development Plan (LSDP), is aimed at improving the health of people on the Island.
The LICHP is a first of its kind.
The partnership between the New Ireland government, Nimamar local level government, the Lihir Mining Area Landowners Association (LMALA) and the Catholic church will come to pass during the signing of the memorandum to signify their commitment to the programme.
