Fix education in NCD

Letters

THE news about National Capital Commission (NCDC) taking over the health and education from the Government is promising.
Before we start the next academic year, the thing to deal with first is to fix issues with health and education’s workforce.
These two sectors will be mainly responsible for implementing NCD Governor Powes Parkop’s vision and dreams.
So far, Parkop has invested millions if not, billions for the development of the city’s infrastructures, stadiums, markets, settlements to suburbs, law and order, city beautification, cleanliness, health facilities , fight against gender-based violence, active city development programmes and others.
This is the right time to invest in human resource development through educating the nation.
Education is important and the city’s education system should be planned properly with the anticipation that we are going to have an influx of students in the years to come.
We need a thorough cleanup.
The system is so corrupt than what it appears to be.
Please appoint people based on merit, if not, nepotism, bribery, lack of productivity, and poor quality will destroy our education system.
The teaching service commission should not reappoint retired officers which is unfair to other hardworking officers.
It is time for some young blood.
Look at the recent grade 12 and 10 results.
All the top schools in the country from NCD are either managed by a church agency or by expatriate principals.
What matters is proper management.
A number of principals who are under investigation are still reinstated more than once because of nepotism and corruption.
Teachers’ morals go down and they don’t give their best.
Students’ discipline is poor.
You compare two neighbouring secondary schools in the city who both enroll students from the same suburbs.
One is top in the country with quality and the other’s performance is poor. Gordon Secondary School was once the pride of NCD, look at where is it now.
What is the criteria for selecting school principals and administrations?
Principals/head teachers that are implicated in corrupt activities should never be considered on any appointments.
Don’t hesitate to recruit performing principals and deputies from other provinces if they wish to come to NCD.
The real problem is with the heads and not with the tails.

  • Thank you whistle blower. Totally agree with you.
Corruption will continue to destroy our education system, and real loosers will be the students, the poor hard working parents, and the nation in the long run.

This is a timely call to revive and take back our education system by having, good, honest, disciplined and God fearing people to head these learning institutions.
