Fix Hagen town

Letters

AFTER being away for some time, I caught the 8am flight into Mt Hagen. It is sad to say, the amount of stain, rubbish, mud, potholes and most of the people who seems not to have washed for decade completely erased my though of the once beautiful Mt Hagen town.
I then went into the Lands office for land matters and it’s utterly disgusting to literally see accumulated human faeces and the foul smell of years of defecation about a metre from the reception area inside the Mt Hagen Lands Office.
The most loved Mt Hagen market smells like raw sewerage, the concrete pavements in the market is thick with mud and slippery.
Outside the market, there’s water logged rubbish piling up on a daily basis for months or possibly years. It is mind boggling that we cannot correct the fundamentally simplest thing.
Mt Hagen town even has another market named “animal market” just across Chinatown.
I wonder if we have health and safety officers, elected members and town/city authority.
How long has the town being neglected and how many more years are we going to let this town go from bad to worse?
What criteria are we using to classify Mt Hagen town to reach city status?
Personally, I could not distinguish between a rubbish dump, a tractor track, a toilet and a central business district.
Dumping rubbish appropriately is basically common sense otherwise it is insanity to live, sell, eat, conduct business and walk inside a dump site, let alone a toilet.
Obviously, the face of the town speaks a million words.
It is a mirror reflection of the people who were voted into hold public office, those of whom who voted them, the dump town/city authority and sadly some of its inhabitants.
It’s a shame that mandated authorities are not taking responsibility.
If no one in Mt Hagen is talking about it than everyone is accepting what’s happening inside Mt Hagen town therefore, I have brought this matter through this letter.
I would have expected to have the most learned people in the country but it is totally absurd.
Hopefully, someone in authority or the elected representatives can respond to my comments through the printed or electronic media so it gives me piece of mind to put things into perspective.
