FLEXIBLE Open and Distance Education (Fode) is an equal and parallel education pathway to any institute for students to achieve their goals, Education Minister Joseph Yopyyopy says.
He told Parliament yesterday that Fode was no longer considered an alternative or second-chance pathway.
Yopyyopy said the courses were not tailored and delivered through the distance mode to many students in PNG who were unable to complete their studies through the formal mainstream system. He said the main clients were the students who left school prematurely.
Yopyyopy said others were persons who were determined to achieve a basic education certificate up to Grade 12.
“Fode enables students (both the regular and distance education) to sit in one classroom for the same exams issued by the department,” he said. “Fode is the sole distance education provider.
“Fode developed its curriculum to align with the formal education system in the country,” he said.
