THE management of the Cocoa Cola Ipatas Cup have been urged to follow accepted rules and regulations when staging games.

Mt Hagen’s Original OWBs team manager Michael Timbai said this following a draw between his team and the City Tigers in the Western Highlands challenge at the Banning rugby league oval in Jiwaka.

He said the game was played two weeks ago but the CCIP management decided on a rematch.

He said both teams did not score any points in regulation and extra time and instead of the winner being decided on points differential, a rematch had been declared.

“This never happens in a game — professional or semi-professional — anywhere in the world,” Timbai said.

He said instead of a rematch the points differential should have considered, with the team with the highest points given the gold pass to play in the highlands challenge at Rebiamul in Mt Hagen.

He said competition chief executive officer Timothy Lepa should step in to make sure that the management was complying with the rules and regulations.

Timbai said in competitions of such a nature (semi-professional), organisers and event managers had to follow the right procedure to conduct games.

Attempts to contact Lepa or Mininga were unsuccessful.
