THE Professional Boxing Control Board (PBCB) is inviting all boxers, trainers, referees, judges and promoters to a meeting on Thursday at the Sports Inn.
Board chairman Bernard Fong said he would be explaining the board’s role and requirements.
The meeting is also an opportunity to clear out any misunderstanding in the boxing fraternity.
He added that they had been receiving queries from boxers on the requirements or how and where they will fill forms if interested to join.
Fong also said the PBCB was a regulator of professional boxing and not a promoter.
Since the set up last year, Fong said PBCB had three meetings so far to set up and organise its office.
“We have had no response or feed back from the PNG Sports Foundation on their offer to assist us set up office at the Sir John Guise Stadium since the announcement and swearing-in of board members,” Fong said.
He made the call after the PBCB failed to receive a good number of entries from applicants by the deadline set for Jan 16.
Fong also said John Deklam of mixed Western and East New Britain parentage had turned professional after attaining his professional boxing licence.
Deklam has met all the requirements set by the board and is now qualified to fight in professional bouts anywhere in the world.
He can also organise his fights himself or through a promoter after receiving his licence.
The first professional fight for Deklam will be in Fiji next week.
Fong said, when all formalities were completed, his promoters in Fiji were expected to confirm the date of the fight.
