Foot patrol

Letters

IT is sad seeing our mothers and female folks being victims of thieves and bag snatchers in and around the main bus stop areas in the city.
The question is; what is the obligation of the police force? Are the police force not supposed to be providing security to these rising issues?
These is a call to the police minister to review the policing structures and do mandatory checks to see that police officers do not sit and relax in the stations but effectively patrol bus stops, markets and shopping centers.
The police force is really lacking capacity building and muscle.
Most police officers sit comfortably in police vehicles and travel around doing nothing but waste fuel and resources resulting in most of them growing pot bellies which is in actual fact diminishing.
Imagine these kind of offices chasing a criminal or betel nut seller, who will win?
All the people want is for the police officers to fully foot patrol the streets and bus stops to make it safe for the general traveling public, limit the usage of vehicles to serious cases and account for the loss many travellers have faced in a while at such places like the Tabari bus stop, Koki bus stop, Gordon and all around the city.
Most of these petty crimes and theft happening is the result of negligence in the police force not professionally administering their sworn oats instead lazing around and relying on factors to motivate like money when they have handsomely being paid by the Government to safeguard and maintain harmony in the community.
