Football friendlies deferred: PNGFA

NEXT month’s international soccer friendlies between the Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia men’s national teams have been deferred to September, according to the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA).
The two friendlies were initially scheduled for June 7 and 9 at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
PNGFA said in a statement that the deferral was made in consultation with the New Caledonia Football Federation due to the occurrence of untimely events at this point in time.
Despite the deferral, PNG will proceed with their training programme in preparation for the Pacific Games in Samoa.
Meanwhile, preparations are on track for the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) grand final at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
NSL manager Leslie Babaga told The National last night that defending champions Toti City would be arriving in Port Moresby today.
“They’ve decided to come a day earlier than Morobe United, so they can acclimatise the Port Moresby weather ahead of the grand final,” Babaga said.
“Everything is order and the teams are preparing for Saturday.”
The third-place playoff will see the Eastern Stars taking on Morobe United (12.30pm kick-off) and City face Hekari United in the grand final (3pm).
