Force aims to build friendship
The National, Wednesday February 10th, 2016
THE new police top management aims to build friendship, lead by example and set high standards, according to Police Commissioner Gari Baki.
Baki said, with the appointment of two new deputies, Deputy Commissioner Administration Raphael Huafolo and Deputy Commissioner Operations Jim Andrews, he knows he can rely on them to implement the objectives of the force.
“My management will also look at building friendships not only within but with all our stakeholders. Because law and order is everyone’s business and networking is critical,” Baki said.
He said he would talk with the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce on law and order issues.
“The management will lead by example in everything that we do and we are setting the standards for everyone to follow. I’ve made it clearly when I promoted the assistant commissioners that there is no room for doubt,” he said.
“My management will also identify and promote personnel within and we want to bring the best in the individuals for the development of the constabulary. Prior to November last year, we promoted a number of officers up to the rank of assistant commissioners, giving them responsibilities in the organisation.
“I’ve done that. We’ve announced the promotions in Christmas last year and there will be another promotion board sitting in May or June this year.”
He said when the management carried out changes, he expected the deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners to follow and carry out changes and lift the image force from what it was percieved.
