Force promotes officers

 PAPUA New Guinea Defence Force Commander Brig-Gen Gilbert Toropo promoted five officers to the rank of lieutenant-colonel last Friday.

John Boli was moved to being director of other ranks management at the force headquarters, Edison Napyo to commanding officer for the First Royal Pacific Islands Regiment at Taurama, Opa Opa as the  commanding officer for the Second Royal Pacific Islands Regiment at Moem Barracks in Wewak, Commander (navy) Willie  Galia is now commanding officer of the Bisilisk Naval Base in Port Moresby and Kila Tavapery to grade one staff officer at the Lae area command at Igam Barracks.

Toropo said the promotions and appointments came during a  transformation period. 

“The Defence Council has trust on them and gave them key responsibilities which they must not take lightly,” he said. 

On behalf of the newly promoted lieutenant-colonels, Boli thanked the Defence Council and everyone who helped contribute to their promotion. 

Boli said as they climbed up the steps, their roles would be more challenging and he promised they would perform their roles and responsibilities to the best of their abilities.
