PAPUA New Guinea should expect more bad weather conditions up to next month, the weather forecaster says.
Assistant director of the National Weather Service, Jimmy Gomoga said the country was still in the peak of the wet season and people must expect more rain, strong winds and flooding around the country.
Gomoga said January and February were in the peak of wet season.
The National Weather Service is monitoring the situation and will inform the National Disaster Officer, relevant authorities, the media and the people of any cyclone or strong wind warnings.
He said North-westerly surges were still coming through causing adverse weather conditions.
“We will have rain and showers increasing to the end of this month and will continue to up to March,” Gomoga said.
Gomoga said the months of April and May were a transitional period when wind directions were variable. Some rain or sun are expected during these months.
Port Moresby will expect afternoon showers for a few days.
He said the wet season would slow down by the end of May or in June when south-easterly winds come through bringing the dry season.
