The JICA-PNGFA project on capacity building for sustainably managing the forest and addressing climate change was officially closed in Port Moresby last week.
The K25 million project, funded by the Japanese government through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, was implemented in 2011.
The project came in two-folds which were aimed at educating staff of Papua New Guinea Forest Authority to monitor the forests and sustainably manage them to address climate change.
The first was a grant aid aimed to develop forest maps and forest monitoring system for ensuring sustainable forest management and climate change.
The other was a JICA technical co-operation project aimed to address climate change, enhance the capacity of relevant institutions in the country for monitoring forest resource including carbon stock.
Managing director of PNGFA, Kanawi Pouru said they were thankful for the technical assistance and co-operation of Japanese government through JICA.
