A SECOND project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency  and Papua New Guinea Forest Authority on forest resource monitoring to address climate change will be implemented, starting July.

“The second project will be based on the outcomes of the first project which was on capacity development of PNGFA to address climate change,” managing director of PNGFA Kanawi Pouru said.

He said that will enable and strengthen the outputs achieved in the first project, to help PNGFA to move forward in sustainable forest management addressing climate change.

He said the old project had given them the capacity, tools and the ability to work on the new project.

Director of PNGFA forest policy and planning Ruth Turia said the overall aim of the project was to ensure the forests in PNG were conserved and managed in a sustainable manner that promoted mitigation and adaptation measures towards climate change.

Turia said the project would enable the capacity of the PNGFA to continuously update the PNG forest resource information management system.

The project will end in 2019.
