FORFEITS continue into the second day of the Digicel Port Moresby Super 9s rugby league challenge at the Lloyd Robson Oval yesterday.
Participating club members present at the field shared disappointment in the manner the PRL was running the 9s challenge.
Tournament coordinators also could not also confirm teams participating in the competition and confusion is looming with more forfeits expected.
When asked about the number of registered teams, tournament director Meke Maino said five teams paid in cash while the rest deposited their K250 fees at the Bank South Pacific branch, Boroko.
In yesterday’s match, Hanuabada Hawks Green continued their top form beating Royals 16-8 and West beat last year’s champions Souths 12-10.
In pool B, Kone Storms beat Tarangau 4-0 and MK Brothers bagged two easy points on forfeit against Morata Bullets 10-0.
In pool C, Port Moresby Butterflies beat Team Central 6-0 and Dobo Warriors defeated Kai Marshalls 16-10.
In pool D, last year’s champions Defence Gold and Hawks White remain undefeated while POM Diwai and 7-Mile Jets have a point each.
Jets won on forfeit against Southern Blacks in the opening match and went down to Defence Gold 8-4 yesterday and POM Diwai collected two easy points on forfeit against Brothers 10-0.
An urgent meeting will be held at the PRL clubhouse at 8am today to iron out a few matters before the competition kicks off.
The Super 9s finals could be deferred to a later date because the Lloyd Robson Oval will be used to host the Ipatas Cup challenge on Friday and the O-League clash between Vanuatu’s Amicale FC and PNG’s Hekari United FC on Saturday.
Meke said it was most likely the Ipatas Cup would start on Thursday and Friday followed by the finals on Sunday.
“The field has already been booked by the PNG Football Association to host the O-League challenge on Saturday,” he said.
