Forget reserved seats

WHEN I was in UPNG, I did my minor in politics.
I have been consistent in my stand that women should enter parliament on merit.
I have never been a supporter of reserved seats for women.
Thus when the question “Should there be reserved seats for women?” came up during one of the lessons by Dr Sopoe, I stood up and said they should stand and fight against the men.
I got an ear-bashing that I will not forget for the rest of my life.
I am so proud we have two women MPs in Loujaya Toni (Lae) and Delilah Gore (Sohe).
Women should stop asking for reserve seats but show that we can take on the men and win on merit.
Let us stop trying to get things on a golden plate.
I convey my congratulations to Toni and Gore.
