FORMER district administrator of Kikori in Gulf province, Navai Kevari, was arrested and charged by members of the Task Force Sweep last Friday.
Kevari was charged with official corruption and conspiracy to defraud for his part in allegedly misappropriating K450,000 intended for the Wowobo jetty and wharf project in Kikori.
Kevari was arrested in Kerema last Thursday and was questioned by members of the Task Force Sweep.
He was alleged to have conspired with others in 2010 to redirect the funds to a company that he and others created for the purpose of receiving such funds.
The funds were the property of the Gulf provincial government
It is alleged the money was put to personal use and not for its intended purpose.
The Task Force Sweep investigation found there was no evidence of any project work being carried out.
Kevari, who is the provincial manager for local level government, was alleged to have used his position as executive officer of the Kikori joint district planning and budget priorities committee to facilitate the transfer of money.
Task Force Sweep chairman, Sam Koim said: “Kevari is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.”
