The National, Thursday July 24th, 2014
FORMER New Zealand Test cricketer Dipak Patel, pictured, has accepted the head coaching role for Cricket PNG over the next two years.
Patel, 55, will be based in Port Moresby and work with each of the junior and senior national teams.
Patel arrives in the country next month and his first task will be to prepare the Barramundis (senior men) for the South Australian Cricket Association’s Premier League as well as the International Cricket Council’s East Asia Pacific Twenty-20 qualifiers. This will be closely followed by the Lewas (women) and the Garamuts (Uner-19 men) who will have World Cup qualifiers to play next year.
Cricket PNG general manager, Greg Campbell was pleased to have Patel on board.
“We’re excited to have an experienced man like Patel come into our setup to help our national teams’ progress to the next level. The next couple of years will be huge for the national teams.
