Former chairman charged with theft, misuse
FORMER Magrida Timbers chairman Inabi Aruba has been charged with two counts of theft and misuse of funds. He appeared in the Waigani district court yesterday.
The court was told that Aruba, 48, from Abau, Central, had failed to acquit a K58,200 cash advance which was diverted for his personal use on Jan 1, 2016. He was chairman of the firm, at the time.
The money was received for annual general meeting expenses at Magore Village, Abau. The funds were given by Delta Timbers for the meeting. It is alleged that Aruba has failed to explain how the money was used.
It was further alleged that on Jan 23, 2016, Aruba lied to Delta Timber and obtained K800 for his daughter and K600 for his son’s school fees.
The fees were not settled and the money was allegedly used by Aruba personally. He was accused of attempting to defraud Magarida Timbers. Aruba was arrested and charged and then released on a K1500 bail. The case returns on May 6.
